Complex Hernia Surgery

Incisional hernia following previous abdominal surgery is one of the most challenging conditions of the abdominal wall. In order to manage these difficult cases Mr Floyd has formed a unique partnership with the General Surgeons, Mr Shankar, Mr Elton and Mr Francis. They have found that working together and combining their different skills on these difficult cases offers patients a more holistic approach, with fewer complications and better long-term outcomes. With a shared experience of over 250 such cases they have now established the Abdominal Wall Unit, the first of its kind in Europe to offer a fully integrated multidisciplinary service for these patients.

Before & after gallery

A 67 yr old lady had a ruptured colon 3 years earlier, requiring a colostomy. After reversing the colostomy she developed multiple hernias. She had an abdominal wall reconstruction by Mr Floyd and Mr Shankar using a composite synthetic mesh repair and removal of excess skin. The second picture was taken 4 months after surgery.

A 29 yr old had surgery for pancreatitis. He developed an incisional hernia and had a previous failed mesh repair. Mr Shankar and Floyd undertook a combined procedure using biological mesh repair and scar revision. The second image was taken 4 months after surgery.

A 51 yr old man who started with an umbilical hernia, after each attempted repair it became larger until Mr Floyd and Shankar operated together. Using a large composite synthetic mesh with a component release of the abdominal wall a solid repair was achieved.
