The most common presentation for breast augmentation is the young 18 year old girl, or 17 year old girl, who’s hoping that her breasts would develop a bit more but they haven’t and she feels that they’re disproportionate with the rest of her body and would like to have breast implants to resolve that. And that’s usually in the age group of about 17 to 24-25, something like that. The next group, as we go through, are the patients that were always happy with their breasts, but after having children they’ve found that they’ve lost volume and they’re a bit disappointed with how their breasts are left after children are breastfeeding and decide they’d like to have breast implants to make them how they used to be. So that’s usually an age group from mid to late twenties, to mid to late thirties. Those are the main two groups that we see patients requiring breast augmentation. There’s one final group, and that is the slightly younger population, who have what’s called breast asymmetry, so when their breasts develop, one breast develops larger than the other. There’s a marked asymmetry, which is very uncomfortable for clothing, dressing, patients feel very unconfident, and they often require quite complex surgery to correct the asymmetry, but usually that involves breast implants.
