Scar Revision

Scars following abdominal surgery can be very irregular and may disfigure the appearance of the abdomen. By employing cosmetic surgery techniques, scar revision surgery can be used to improve the appearance of the scar and restore the shape of the abdomen.

This 40 yr old had previous abdominal surgery. The umbilicus was distorted and the scar stretched. Mr Floyd carried out a scar revision, together with liposuction to improve the contour. The umbilicus was reconstructed 3 months later.
This 37 yr old had a previous attempt to correct divarication but the pot belly appearance and divarication is still present. Mr Floyd carried out a re-repair of the divarication and a scar revision. Second picture taken 2yrs post-op.
A 45 yr old who had had 4 previous abdominal operations, with poor scars and incisional hernias. She had an abdominal wall reconstruction with biological mesh repair of the hernias and cosmetic scar revision. The second picture is taken 7 months post-op.

Anaesthesia General anaesthetic
In-patient stay Overnight or daycase and always performed in a hospital operating theatre

Risks and Complications :
Frequent Bruising, swelling, numbness
Infrequent Infection, delayed wound healing, bleeding(haematoma), asymmetry, poor scarring, seroma

Recovery 3-5 days before socialising with friends and family
7-10 days off work
1st dressing at 1 week
driving 2 weeks
return to the gym 6 weeks
travel abroad 3 weeks

Follow-up 1 week, 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months
